Brief Description of Source: The three yearbooks pictures are from my old school (Shekou International School). I went to that school from 1st grade to 4th grade. The middle picture (my face) is when I was in 3rd grade. It was one of my favorite age time because there is no reason to study at that time. You just play all day! I interviewed my mom about all of these important stuffs.

Source Type: The yearbooks are a primary source because the photos in the book are taken during that event and made into a book. Also the interview that I did with my mom was a primary source as well. The written source is a secondary source because it gives information about moving to a different country. It gives more information of the turning point of our family history.

Short Explanation of the Source's Significance to the Event: My primary source (yearbook) are a important event to me personally because it contains the evidence (photos) telling that I attended this school. Also the photographs that was took were all the time when I was happy! There is nothing better than yearbooks that could bring your memories back to that time.

Written Recount of the Event: At 2003, I moved from South Korea to Shenzhen. Moving to Shenzhen changed my entire life 180 degrees. Since I moved to China and went to a international school, I got to learn English and Chinese at the same time! If I didn't follow my dad and moved to Shenzhen together, I would of probably be in local school in Korea and not be fluent in English or Chinese. This event (moving from Korea to Shenzhen) has completely changed my lifetime. Since I went to moved to Shekou International School, I am right now in Korea International School. Until now, I am really happy about what has happened to me.

Interview Time!

I interviewed my mom for a while to find out some information. My mom spoke to me in Korean and then I translated it into English.

Francis: There are places like America but then why did we need to go to Shenzhen?
Mom: Your dad moved to Shenzhen due to business. As a result, we stayed in Shenzhen for five and a half years.

Francis: Was Shekou International School the only international school there?
Mom: Nope. There were many other international schools there but then most parents in my dad's company recommended that school because lots of smart students went there.

Francis: Mom, so what do you think are the good and bad things about moving to a different place?
Mom: I don't regret moving here at all. I think it is actually better than Korea because I was sort of worrying that if you went to Korean school, you might of learn lots of unsafe stuffs. There was nothing bad about Shenzhen!

Francis: Lastly, how did this event change our family's life?
Mom: If your entire lifetime until now was in South Korea, then probably you would be attending a local school near your house. You should thank your dad because he is the one that actually helped you to learn English by letting you attend an international school. Even though I personally think local schools aren't bad, I think international school is a better choice for your future.
Francis: Oh. Ok! Thank you!

Timeline

In 2002 October, moving to Shenzhen, China was my turning point. After that attending Shekou International School (SIS) and Canadian Kindergarden was the effects that happened due to moving to Shenzhen, China. In Canadian Kindergarden, I didn't learn any Chinese or English at all. I mastered English and Chinese at the same time in Shekou International School (SIS). Since it was China, Chinese was a mandatory subject just like here in Korea, Korean is a core elective at 6th grade.

Roles of a Historian

Detective: Someone who finds evidence showing that a change has happened in history. I showed which sources were primary and secondary. I used my detective skills to find the sources of the turning point of my family history and thought about why this was a turning point of my family.

Interpreter: A person who decides what they want to prove after having all the information needed. The interpretation skill was used to explain why each sources are significant to the turning point and think about what to write in my written recount of the event.

Judge: A person who observes the evidence and correct which point of view is true/right. I used my brilliant judging skills to choose the sources!

Philosopher: A philosopher is a person who looks for answers to the questions of life. By me following my dad to Shenzhen, this became a huge turning point because now because what I'm doing right now and what university I go has all been changed due to this major event that happened to me.
